*April is the owner of Angels Homestead and The Secret Recipe Club, the fun Secret Santa of the food blog world. Born and raised in Southern Indiana, she also called Chicago, IL. her home for 18 years in her late teens and 20′s. She now happily lives in Southern Indiana again with her husband Joe and 16 year old daughter Melissa. She’s also mom to Chris, Mario, Matt and Ray, who are all grown and out on their own now. She makes her home out in the country and enjoys the quite life, all while living frugally.

Welcome! I’m so glad you stopped by. If this is your first visit, here’s some info to acquaint you with me and my blog Angels Homestead. My name is April and I’m a frugal wife and homeschooling mom, who loves blogging, sharing through social media, and trying new recipes. My passion is my family though. Everyday with them is a new adventure and I am so blessed to have them! Cooking and baking is my favorite pastime, and while you wont find any gourmet recipes here, you will find yummy and creative, down-home cooking, that is easy to prepare and taste great. All while staying within a budget.

Cooking Credentials:
Nothing professional. My training took place in my mom’s kitchen as I was growing up, and in my own kitchen as I raised my family. I have recently started eating gluten free after suffering for years from a host of autoimmune diseases, and drug therapy which didn’t work. After much research I’ve concluded that my diet has played a major role in my ailments. This is a new cooking journey for me, but has been a blessed one so far with the renewed health I am feeling. So while most of my older recipes are good old Southern favorites, which is what I was raised on, my newer recipes are gluten free, as well as Paleo or Primal.

How did you get your blogs name? My nickname was Angel in my younger days, and this blog follows our family’s efforts to live a simple, frugal and self-sufficient life on our little 3 acre homestead. Hence the name, Angels Homestead.
