Baked Apple Chips

Posted in Gluten Free, snacks

I found quite a few “recipes” for these around blog land. Really, no recipe is needed though, just a good, sharp knife and a sweet apple. Some people added sugar to theirs, but I found by using a sweet version, such as red delicious, that sugar isn’t necessary at all. They came out super sweet after baking them. You can cut them really thin, which will produce a very crispy chip, think the crunch of a potato chip, or cut them just a bit thicker, and have them come out chewy, sort of like a dried fruit snack. I made them both ways, and they were both delicious. I cant wait to try this with other fruit, like banana slices or pineapple.

Baked Apple Chips

2 medium red delicious apples
Cinnamon {Optional}

Preheat oven to 200 degrees.

Wash apples, then slice into very thin slices across the width of the apple. Cut them a bit thicker if you would like a slightly chewy chip. Remember, the thicker you cut them, the longer they take to bake.
Place them on an ungreased cookie sheet, (sprinkle lightly with cinnamon if using) and bake for about 2 hours. Flip them over half way through the cooking process. Once the edges are curling up and are starting to look browned they are done.
Let cool then enjoy. Store any leftovers in a air tight container.
