As I was putting my weekly menu together last week, I was stumped on coming up with something new to try with the ham steaks I was going to serve. That’s when the idea came to me of how much I enjoy the baked ham I make for the holidays. That was it I thought! Why not make that yummy pineapple topping, and serve it as a side dish?

This is what I came up with, and it was perfect. The saltiness of the ham. paired perfectly with the yummy sweetness of the pineapple. It couldn’t be easier to make either. Just 3 simple ingredients, and you have an easy and unique new side dish.

Broiled Pineapple

This is delicious served with fried ham steaks. The slight saltiness of the ham pairs perfectly with the sweetness of the pineapple. I think it would make a great ice-cream topping too.

Ingredients

  • 1 20 oz can unsweetened pineapple chunks, drained
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup coconut sugar

Directions

  • Preheat oven broiler with rack in the upper third of oven.
  • Place pineapple chunks on a baking sheet.
  • Drizzle the melted butter over the pineapple, then sprinkle sugar evenly over the pineapple as well.
  • Broil for 4 - 5 minutes, or until the pineapple is bubbly and starting to brown.
