Table Talk: Holiday Foods and Traditions~Chocolate Cookies with Peppermint Frosting

Next to Thanksgiving Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year. The sights, sounds and feeling of excitement that seems to hang in the air fills me with happiness. I’ve never been one to get caught up in all of the holiday spending that seems to go on during the holidays though. Some years it was because of necessity and other years was because I just didn’t believe that spending a lot of money on gifts captured the real meaning of the season, which is of course Jesus birth.

Giving gifts from the heart is far more meaningful for me, which is where one of my main holiday traditions started, giving homemade foods as Christmas gifts. Usually my favorite thing to make is cookies and candies, there’s just something so comforting in opening a tin or bag filled with those treats. How much more enjoyable it is to receive a gift that can be eaten and shared with your loved ones, then to open up yet another pack of socks, or a Christmas sweater that we would never think of buying or wearing. :) Continue reading

But alas my sweet-tooth husband struck again, and convinced me to make him something sweet. I really need to start looking at my assignment when my husband is busy with other things. :)

Gingersnap Cookies

It’s a shame that these cookies don’t get more recognition then they do, they really are a good cookie. Some people confuse them with gingerbread cookies, they are different though in that the gingersnap cookie dough is rolled into balls, rolled in sugar, then baked as a round cookie. Gingerbread cookies on the other hand, use a bit more flour, which produces a stiffer dough, which can then be rolled out and cut into shapes, most famously the gingerbread man.

I shared a recipe for Hot Chocolate Mix yesterday, and now I’m excited to share a recipe I made with that mix. Hot Chocolate Cookies. As soon as I seen this recipe I couldn’t wait to make it. Unfortunately my week got super busy, as well as coming down with some kind of stomach bug that totally took away any desire to cook or eat for several days. So that’s the reason I’m sharing my weekly Christmas series with you a few days late.
