Browse my site and you will notice that I love making things from scratch. I haven’t made a cake from a boxed mix in quite a few years. Homemade just taste better to me, my family agrees, and I’d much rather serve them something that has ingredients I can actually pronounce. Meaning no additives or preservatives.
Today I’m sharing with you my taco seasoning mix. It is super easy to make, will only take you about 5 minutes to put together, and uses spices that most of us always have in our pantry. It also taste a lot better then those little store-bought packages of taco seasoning. Did I mention it’s way cheaper then store-bought? Why not make your own?! Continue reading
Here is another great homemade spice blend for you, Cinnamon Sugar. This is a super simple recipe that I love making up in batches to have on hand whenever the urge hits me. It’s the perfect combination of sweet with a definite, but not overbearing cinnamon taste. Not only does it taste good, but it’s frugal too. The last time I was at the store, I checked the price of a cinnamon sugar blend, and they wanted $2.70 for a tiny little bottle of the stuff! Totally unnecessary when you can make a large batch for way cheaper.
Most of you know how much I like making my own spice blends, like Pumpkin Pie Spice and Ranch Dressing Mix. Well have I got an easy one for you today, Garlic Salt.
This one is so simple and easy, that you’ll wonder why you ever bought those expensive bottles of it at the store. All it takes is just two ingredients that I’m sure all of you home cooks keep in your pantry, garlic powder and salt. See? I told you it was easy!
Place salt and garlic powder into a small container and shake to combine.
Use as you normally would in a recipe that calls for garlic salt.

As some of my readers know, I’ve been trying lately to post on a more regular basis. Well, that was sidelined this week when I was hit with a major Fibro attack. I’ve been pretty sick for the last three days, two of them lying in bed, to sick and in pain to move. This evening I’m feeling just a tad bit better, so I wanted to get back to blogging and share with you a recipe for some of the best tasting bread sticks you would ever want to eat. Ultimate Garlic Bread Sticks.
My family loves pizza, so much so that we actually have a weekly pizza and movie night. We rent a couple of movies we want to see, and enjoy them while munching on homemade pizza. What goes best with pizza? Why bread sticks of course! I never have had much luck with shaping bread sticks though, they always wind up way to big on the ends and misshapen in their shape. While it didn’t affect the taste any, it always bothered me.
It’s so simple and easy to make your own bread crumbs and croutons, that it’s ridiculous to pay those expensive prices for the store bought kind. I love making my own diy food products whenever possible. I mean, have you really looked at the ingredient list on those prepackaged foods that line the store shelves? It’s scary, and if I can make something myself then I do it. Not only is it more frugal, but healthier too.
