I’m attempting, again, to give up coffee. While I used to love my 2 cup a day morning ritual, more and more often it seems coffee is making me ill to my stomach. So what’s a girl to do? Drink hot chocolate instead! But not just any hot chocolate will do. I hate the powdery, fake instant stuff you buy in the store. To the rescue? Homemade Hot Chocolate.
I had tried several different recipes before I came upon this one. In fact, after doing an internet search on this specific recipe, it seemed to be the most blogged and bragged about one out there.
So I had to try it and give it a chance. Folks, this stuff is fantastic! It is pure chocolaty goodness in a cup. My daughter and I were impressed with how good it turned out. No fake tasting chocolate drink here. It came out creamy, rich and incredibly delicious.
So much so that we are going to give it out as Christmas gifts this year, along with my homemade bread that everyone seems to love. My son and his wife like it so much, that they request I make them each their very own loaf to take home with them every time they visit me. (Which is usually once a month)
So if your looking for a wonderful chocolaty drink to indulge in, or for that perfect hot cocoa mix to give as Christmas gifts, then look no further. This is it.
This is pure chocolate decadence in a cup.
Ingredients
- 3 cups nonfat dry milk powder
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1½ cups cocoa powder (Dutch-processed preferred, but regular is okay)
- 1½ cups white chocolate chips
- ¼ teaspoon salt
Directions
- Add all of the ingredients into a large bowl and stir together.
- Place half of the ingredients in a food processor and pulse until the chocolate is finely ground. Remove to another bowl, then do the same with the other half of the mixture.
- Store in an airtight container for up to 3 months.
- To make hot chocolate, add 1/3 cup of the chocolate mix into a mug and stir in 1 cup of hot milk or water. (Milk will produce a creamier drink)
- Top with your choice of toppings, such as whipped cream or miniature marshmallows.

I'm so excited to try this! I just got married, and as I started grocery shopping, it shocked me how expensive hot cocoa mix was! Maybe this will make it so we can have more of it :)
Thanks!
