My kids wont touch oatmeal unless it’s the instant kind. Since it can be pretty expensive, I usually only bought it as an occasional treat. Well no more. I seen several other blogs talking about making their own instant oatmeal and I thought, I can afford that, plus get my kids to eat a healthier breakfast. After seeing that most recipes called for using instant oats, I decided to make my own with my new food processor my hubby just bought for me. I *heart* my new processor. It turned my old-fashioned oats into instant in no time. I mixed them up with some brown sugar and cinnamon and stored them in the same box I got them in. Super easy, and now the kids can whip up their own breakfast in a hurry before school. I sure wish I had done this sooner.

Homemade Instant Oatmeal

6 cups Old-Fashioned Oats
1/2-1 cup Light Brown Sugar
1-2 teaspoons Cinnamon
1 cup Powdered Milk

In a food processor, process 2 cups oats at a time to a semi-powder. (About 10 seconds) Once all oats are done this way, combine them with the rest of the ingredients and mix well.
To prepare, place 1/2 cup of oatmeal in a bowl and stir in 1/2 cup of water. Microwave for 1 minute. Fruit or nuts can be added as well. (My kids like dried apples) Serve.
