Natural Homemade Drain Cleaner

Drain Cleaner

Do you have a clogged drain, or one that drains slowly? Don’t call an expensive plumber, clear it out yourself frugally and in a environmentally friendly way. Use baking soda and vinegar. That’s it, and before you know it, your drain will be clean and flowing freely.

  • Pour 1 cup of baking soda into the drain.
  • Pour 1/2 cup vinegar into the drain and immediately cover it with a drain plug or plate. (It will bubble and foam up, and you want that stuff staying in the drain where it can work it’s magic.)
  • Allow to sit for 30 minutes, then remove the plug and pour a pot of boiling water down the drain, BE CAREFUL, then run hot tap water down the drain for one minute.
  • For really stubborn clogs, you may need to repeat the above procedure a second time.

How Does It Work?

Baking soda is a base and when combined with vinegar, an acid, reacts to form carbon dioxide and sodium acetate. This causes the bubbles that scrub the drain’s insides. A monthly treatment will help prevent future clogs.
