This was something my mom made often for our family when I was growing up. It’s a great comfort food, and really fills you up and warms you on a chilly winter night. Whenever I make it, it brings back such sweet memories of my mom in the kitchen with me and my sister begging for a taste as she cooked. If your looking for some down-home southern food, then you’ll definitely want to give this a try.

Southern Steak and White Gravy

6 Pieces Cubed Steak
3 1/4 c Flour (Divided)
1-12 oz can Evaporated Milk
2 c Water
Salt and Pepper to taste

Place enough oil in a pan to just coat the bottom, put pan over medium heat. In a bowl, place 1 1/4 cups flour and add 1/2 tsp salt and 1/4 tsp pepper. Mix well. Dip each piece of steak into flour and coat well on both sides. Place steak in pan and cook until browned on both sides and cooked through. Remove steak to a plate while you make your gravy.

Place 1/2 C flour into skillet with meat drippings. Add a little more salt and pepper and stir over medium heat until the flour is lightly browned. Slowly pour in 1 can evaporated milk and 2 cups water, stirring constantly. Continue stirring with a wire whisk over med. heat until thickened. Add a little more milk if you prefer thinner gravy. Return steak to the pan and turn to coat with gravy on both sides.

Serve steak and gravy with Fluffy Mashed Potatoes.
