Kids of all ages, and especially my family loves pizza and cheeseburgers, and this recipe combines them both into one delicious dish. And to make it really cheesy and special, why not add cheese to the crust too!
I first heard of stuffed-crust pizza in the mid 90′s when Pizza Hut came out with it. Boy was it good. I was never one to eat the outer edge of the crust until that brilliant idea came along. Alas I don’t eat at Pizza Hut anymore since their quality has went down so much, and now make my own homemade pizza. My family and I think homemade taste loads better then a restaurant or store bought version, and we like the fact that we can customize them to suit our taste.
This pizza/cheeseburger combo, with yummy melted cheese in the crust has become a family favorite, and has been on the menu for the last 3 weeks for our weekly pizza and movie night. I make two pizzas for our family of four, and there are never any leftovers.
Ingredients
- 1/2 lb ground beef
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 1/2 small onion, chopped
- salt and pepper
- 2 - 3 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
- 2 cups shredded colby/jack cheese
- 1/2 cup pizza sauce (more or less depending on how much sauce you like)
- 1 - 12 pizza crust
- 6 string cheese mozzarella sticks
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Spread 1/2 of my homemade pizza dough (recipe link above) onto a 12-inch pizza pan, making sure there is a little extra dough around the edge of the pan. Randomly prick holes in the dough with a fork.
- Arrange cheese sticks around the edge of the pizza crust, cutting cheese to fit if necessary. Carefully stretch dough over the cheese sticks, and crimp edges to seal in cheese.
- Bake pizza crust for 5 minutes, then remove from oven and set aside. Increase oven temperature to 400 degrees.
- In a skillet cook the ground beef with the onion and garlic until browned and no pink remains. Drain any grease and season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Assemble the pizza by spreading the desired amount of pizza sauce on the crust.
- Sprinkle seasoned ground beef over the sauce, followed by the cheese and finally the bacon.
- Bake for 10 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown, and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Allow to cool for 5 minutes, then slice and serve.
