Ultimate Garlic Breadsticks & Garlic Bread Seasoning

Posted in breads, DIY Foods

As some of my readers know, I’ve been trying lately to post on a more regular basis. Well, that was sidelined this week when I was hit with a major Fibro attack. I’ve been pretty sick for the last three days, two of them lying in bed, to sick and in pain to move. This evening I’m feeling just a tad bit better, so I wanted to get back to blogging and share with you a recipe for some of the best tasting bread sticks you would ever want to eat. Ultimate Garlic Bread Sticks.

My family loves pizza, so much so that we actually have a weekly pizza and movie night. We rent a couple of movies we want to see, and enjoy them while munching on homemade pizza. What goes best with pizza? Why bread sticks of course! I never have had much luck with shaping bread sticks though, they always wind up way to big on the ends and misshapen in their shape. While it didn’t affect the taste any, it always bothered me.

If you aren’t aware, I host a fun linky party each week called Saturday Spotlight. People from blogland are invited to come and share their latest and greatest recipes, crafts, DIY projects or anything creative they’ve done. I have seen some amazing things so far and have lots of them bookmarked to try myself.

One of those creative ideas was to make bread bowls to serve soup in. Brenda from Chatting Over Chocolate shared this genius idea. I usually serve some type of bread or rolls with my soup, but how much more fun to serve the soup “inside” the bread.

Hello again! This reveal I have the pleasure of sharing TWO recipes with you due to a cancellation from one of our group members of the Secret Recipe Club. I love finding new recipes though, so I was more then happy to fill in. What’s the Secret Recipe Club you ask? Well, if you haven’t heard of it, where have you been?! Just kidding : )

Each Monday a group of bloggers post their recipes from their secretly assigned blog and reveal themselves to everyone. Sometimes on Reveal Day there’s what we call an orphan. That means that whoever was supposed to make something from this particular blog didn’t. Whether they simply forgot or had a real life emergency, it still leaves someone without a reveal to look forward to. The wonderful thing about The Secret Recipe Club is that no one likes to see anyone left out. So quite often when word spreads, someone will come forward and make something from that blog. Today that would be me, the owner of the club.

Bread Machine White or Wheat Bread

Homemade Bread
I tried a lot of bread recipes before I finally came up with one my family actually liked. This one is soft and tasty and easy to slice, and they LOVE it. A trick I learned is to not bake the bread in the bread machine itself, just use it to knead the bread, then transfer it to a loaf pan and bake in the oven. It works every time.

Bread Machine White or Wheat Bread

For wheat bread 1 1/8 c Warm Water, about 110 degrees (For white bread, decrease water to 1 cup)
2 1/2 tsp Yeast
1/4 c Honey or Sugar
1 tsp Sea Salt
2 T Butter, melted, plus extra
(For wheat bread) 2 c All Purpose Flour (For white bread, increase white flour to 3 cups and omit wheat flour)
(For wheat bread) 1 c Whole Wheat Flour

Place water, yeast and honey into the bread machine and allow to proof for 10 minutes. Mixture should look foamy and bubbly. Add salt, butter and flours. Set bread machine to dough setting and turn on. Check dough after 10 minutes to make sure it’s not to wet or to dry. If it is, add water or flour, a tablespoon at a time until it is the right consistency. (It should be slightly moist to the touch, and clearing the sides of the bread machine pan)

Once the dough cycle reaches it’s first rest period, (This is 20 minutes on my machine) remove the dough and place into a well greased 9 1/2 x 5 bread pan. Brush top of dough with melted butter and cover with a kitchen towel in a warm place. Allow to rest for 30 minutes, then place into a pre-heated 350 degree oven. Bake for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and allow to cool for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a rack and allow to cool completely. Slice and enjoy.
