Basic Homemade Meatballs

Posted in beef

Meatballs are the ultimate in comfort food. They’re easy to make, tasty, and there is just something so homey about biting into one of these tasty morsels. If you haven’t tried to make you’re own homemade meatballs, I really encourage you to do so. They are one of the simplest and easiest recipes to throw together, and taste so much better than anything you can buy from the freezer section of the grocery store.

Once a month I make a triple or quadruple batch of these meatballs and freeze them for fast meals later on in the month. You can toss them in spaghetti sauce to enjoy with spaghetti and garlic bread, or take that same meatballs and spaghetti sauce and stuff them into a roll to create a meatball sub with melted mozzarella cheese, add them to soups and stews, use them to make a meatball stroganoff, swedish meatballs … the possibilities are almost endless.

Homemade Croutons and Bread Crumbs

Posted in breads, DIY Foods

It’s so simple and easy to make your own bread crumbs and croutons, that it’s ridiculous to pay those expensive prices for the store bought kind. I love making my own diy food products whenever possible. I mean, have you really looked at the ingredient list on those prepackaged foods that line the store shelves? It’s scary, and if I can make something myself then I do it. Not only is it more frugal, but healthier too.

Salisbury Steak and Gravy

Posted in beef

Why buy those frozen salisbury steak dinners that taste nothing like actual beef, when you can make your own from fresh ingredients? My family loves this meal, and it’s easy to put together, so I usually make it at least once a month.

Salisbury Steak and Gravy

1 pound ground beef or turkey
1/2 cup fresh bread crumbs
1 1/2 teaspoons dried, minced onion
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1 tablespoon milk
Beef Gravy

Place ground beef, bread crumbs, minced onion, salt, pepper and milk into a large bowl and mix just until well combined. Add a bit more milk if mixture seems to dry.
Using your hands, gently shape into 3 or 4 patties. Fry in a pan over medium heat until well done.
Place patties on plates and pour the desired amount of beef gravy over them.
Serve with mashed potatoes and your choice of vegetable.
