I received this book for a review awhile back, but an unfortunate accident that my husband was involved in prevented me from reading it fully and being able to give it an honest review. Now that my husband is getting better, I was able to sit down and read through the book. I LOVED it!

Description:

The facts are on the table. Dinnertime is truly the most important hour in a day that a family can spend together. Focusing on the family meal, this book will help strengthen families by showing them how to reclaim this important time in order to build relationships, draw closer to one another, and restore a sense of peace in their homes. Millions of parents in America can picture the kind of home life they want but don’t know how to make it a reality. The Hour That Matters Most will help readers strengthen and transform their own families—specifically around the dinner table.

From the publisher:

Drs. Les and Leslie Parrott have discovered the surprising impact that something as simple as sharing a meal together can have on a family. And they aren’t alone. Researchers across the board are finding that an hour around the dinner table can really tether a family together and help you raise up healthier, happier kids.

Featuring the inspiring story of Stephanie Allen and Tina Kuna, the founders of Dream Dinners, The Hour That Matters Most shows you how to nourish and nurture your family through regular meal times.

An inspiring, practical book packed with everything you need to help you make the most of the dinnertime hour.

The Hour That Matters Most includes:

Never before published recipes
Expert cooking tips and ideas
Color photos of family favorite meals
Dozens of conversation starters to get your kids talking around the table

My Thoughts:

The book is filled with tips to engage your family, from conversation starters to recipes, meal planning, and more.
The layout made it very easy to read, and the tip boxes are great starting points if you don’t have time to sit down and read the entire book.
I really enjoyed this book and have found great advice on how to get my family to the dinner table more often.
It was very practical and encouraging, as I really want to keep meal times special at our house. I’m finding that the older my children get, the harder that is becoming, what with work schedules and after school activities. It IS doable though!

Here was my favorite recipe from the book:

Chicken Fajitas

(Serves 6)

12 chicken breast tenders
1 large sliced yellow onion
1 sliced red bell pepper
1 sliced green bell pepper
1/4 cup diced mild green chilies
1/4 cup lime juice
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp kosher salt
1/2 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp pepper
12 six-inch flour or wheat tortillas
1/4 cup oil

Add chicken, vegetables, and seasonings to an airtight container, and toss with lime juice to coat. Seal and marinate for 24 to 48 hours in refrigerator or in freezer.
Before cooking, thaw if frozen. Wrap tortillas in foil and place in a warm oven. Heat oil in a heavy, large saute pan on stove top over medium-high heat. Add contents of chicken and vegetable container to pan, and stir-fry 10-12 minutes or until chicken is done. Serve with warm tortillas.
