Ultimate Garlic Breadsticks & Garlic Bread Seasoning

Posted in breads, DIY Foods

As some of my readers know, I’ve been trying lately to post on a more regular basis. Well, that was sidelined this week when I was hit with a major Fibro attack. I’ve been pretty sick for the last three days, two of them lying in bed, to sick and in pain to move. This evening I’m feeling just a tad bit better, so I wanted to get back to blogging and share with you a recipe for some of the best tasting bread sticks you would ever want to eat. Ultimate Garlic Bread Sticks.

My family loves pizza, so much so that we actually have a weekly pizza and movie night. We rent a couple of movies we want to see, and enjoy them while munching on homemade pizza. What goes best with pizza? Why bread sticks of course! I never have had much luck with shaping bread sticks though, they always wind up way to big on the ends and misshapen in their shape. While it didn’t affect the taste any, it always bothered me.

Garlic Bread Sticks with Sauce

Until I found this super easy and yummy recipe. These Garlic Bread Sticks are easy to make and taste amazing, with no shaping! You just pat the dough out onto your baking sheet, pre-cut with a pizza cutter, season and bake. That’s it. These baby’s are buttery, salty, cheesy, garlicky sticks of yumminess that your whole family will enjoy.

The main instructions are for making these bread sticks with a bread machine. Instructions for using a stand mixer are at the bottom.

1 1/2 cups warm water
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon yeast
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 1/2 - 4 cups flour
1/4 cup butter
Garlic Seasoning {Recipe Below}

Place water, yeast and sugar into a bread machine and allow to proof for 10 minutes. Mixture should look foamy and bubbly.

Add salt and 3 1/2 cups flour. Set bread machine to dough setting and turn on. Check dough after 10 minutes to make sure it’s not to wet or to dry. If it is, add water or flour, a tablespoon at a time until it is the right consistency. (It should be slightly moist to the touch, and clearing the sides of the bread machine pan)

Once the dough cycle reaches it’s first rest period, (This is 20 minutes on my machine) Melt the butter and pour half of it onto a large baking sheet,

Remove the dough from the bread machine and place it onto the buttered baking sheet. Allow to rest for 5 minutes.

Spread the dough out flat onto the pan until it reaches all of the edges. Pour the other half of the butter onto the dough and spread it all the way to the edges. Sprinkle the Garlic Seasoning over the buttered dough, as much as you would like.

Cut the dough into about 36 pieces {Or into as many pieces as you'd like} with a pizza cutter, which makes the cutting so much easier.

Place the baking sheet into a warm oven, with the temp set to about 170 degrees or the "warm" setting. Allow to rise for 10 minutes. Without opening the door, turn the oven up to 350 degrees and bake for 10 - 12 minutes or until golden brown.

Remove from oven and allow to cool for 5 minutes, then re-cut lines in the dough with the pizza cutter again. Serve with pizza sauce. My Easy Pizza Sauce is super yummy.

For a stand mixer: In the bowl of a stand mixer with a dough hook attached, add the yeast, sugar and warm water and give it a stir. Let it sit for 10 minutes or until bubbly and foamy. Add the salt, oil and half the flour and turn your mixer on. Once that flour is incorporated, start adding flour in a little at a time until you get the pizza dough to the consistency you want. It should be slightly moist, but when you touch it, it shouldn't stick to your hand. Turn the mixer to high and knead for 6 minutes. The dough should be smooth and the bowl clean. Lightly grease the dough, cover with plastic wrap and let rise for about an hour, or until doubled in size. Proceed with the rest of the recipe.
